“I have chosen to support two charities during the year: the Sussex Cricket Foundation and the PCA Benevolent Fund. Both are brilliant causes and I feel extremely proud to be able to support both during my testimonial.”

The PCA Benevolent Fund sits at the heart of the PCA and has helped many current and past players.

Few careers carry so much uncertainty as that of a professional cricketer but thanks to the PCA Benevolent Fund, past and present players have a vital support network which helps them to prepare for and readjust in the world beyond cricket.

The Benevolent Fund helps former and current cricketers and their immediate family members in times of hardship and upheaval by providing vital funding for operations. It can help those who are having difficulty adjusting to life after cricket find an alternative career, and also help current players with professional support and expert advice.

The support provided by the Benevolent Fund is wide-ranging and, in some cases has been ground-breaking. Examples of past Sussex players that have availed of the Benevolent Fund’s help are Keith Newell and Monty Panesar who has now become a mental health ambassador for the PCA.

Ed said, ‘I am incredibly proud to be supporting the PCA Benevolent Fund during my testimonial year. The charity does fantastic work helping current and past players in a number of ways, and to be able to give something back to the game that I love and that has supported me for the last 18 years is a real honour’.
